I thought scratchings were closer to cracklins, less fluffy and with a layer of fat attached. Are food terms in Canada closer to England or America?

I was in Canada once if that’s any use! I recall being surprised how American everything was in Québec, with fried breakfasts, filter coffee and so on. Also, the Québecois speak American French which sounds very odd.

Lol. You know what I mean. Every pub is better for having a friendly lazy dog that comes round every now and then for a little attention and a crisp or two.

My uncle had a pub and every Saturday a guy would come in with his lab, get a pint of bitter and a packet of ready salted Seabrooks crinkle cut crisps, he also sat in the same seat and there was a dog bowl behind the bar. He’d pour a little of the bitter into the bowl, the dog would lap it up and lay down. When the guy opened his packet of crisps it was two for him, one for the dog, two for him, one for the dog, and so on. He’d tell his wife he was out walking the dog, but she knew he was at the pub as she’d phone from time to time to see if he was still there or on his way home. He never knew this.

But a dog just adds atmosphere to a pub when your trying to relax.

We call it just French to denote either English or French language but if we were to think of the Quebec French dialect differentiations, us anglophones would call it Québécois. I think Quebec French speakers have more regionalized names as well, to denote local dialects.

I wish I would take the time to learn to be more conversational with it...I just know enough to read a cereal box or ask directions etc.

My Aldi stocks the “Clancy’s” brand of pork skins that I’ve grown tired of. I would buy the hot ones and the flavor is just hot. I’ve started getting these when I find them as they are more flavorful , though Aldi does have them occasionally.

We have crackling and scratching in the U.K. though crackling is usually what we call the hard crispy skin and fat off a roast pork joint, scratching is what we call the deep fried fat pork fat that's been seasoned, often enjoyed in a pub or bar.

My employer unexpectedly s ent me a big tin of cookies from a bakery near headquarters in North Carolina to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the American subsidiary, and they've only got a 5 day shelf life, so duty calls.
